In December 2025, Mending Kids will launch a maxillofacial surgical mission to Nepal with local providers, led by Dr. Victor Chien of Cedars‑Sinai Guerin Children’s. This marks our first collaboration with Dr. Chien to advance his work in comprehensive cleft care beyond primary surgery.
Cleft palate repairs are never one and done. While closing the initial gap offers dramatic transformation, it’s usually just the beginning. Many children require additional palate surgeries, bone grafting, orthodontic treatment, and speech therapy to complete their healing journey. That is our mission: helping them follow through to full function and confidence.
Though local teams are highly skilled in primary cleft procedures and other specialties, our exchange will concentrate on more complex maxillofacial surgeries—such as secondary cleft revisions, alveolar bone grafting, and reconstructive techniques—that often remain inaccessible due to cost, training, or resource gaps.
Dr. Victor Chien serves as Director of Cleft and Craniofacial Surgery at Cedars‑Sinai Guerin Children’s. He’s a pediatric plastic surgeon renowned for leading Cedars‑Sinai’s cleft and craniofacial program and delivering world‑class care to children. While he is a veteran of several medical missions, this Nepal mission represents our first formal partnership to support his advanced surgical work and help extend long‑term impact in the region.

Nepal Maxillofacial MissionHelp Us Mend Kids in Nepal.
Our surgical team is donating their skills, time, and hearts — but getting them there, and giving them what they need to operate, takes resources. Your donation helps cover flights from Los Angeles, hotel stays near the hospital, extra luggage fees to transport vital supplies, and the consumables needed in every surgery. It also supports the effort behind the scenes to make it all run smoothly. Every dollar gets us closer to transforming lives — not just through surgery, but through the power of showing up. |
