The need

Paraguay, a landlocked country in South America, faces significant challenges in providing specialized medical care for children with Hirschsprung's disease and anorectal malformations (ARM). These congenital conditions require complex, multidisciplinary management, which is often limited in resource-constrained settings.

Without intervention, these conditions lead to lifelong complications, severe infections, and even death. Many children remain on waiting lists for years due to the lack of trained specialists and proper medical infrastructure

To address this urgent need, Dr. Jason Frischer, Dr. Beth Rymeski, and their world renowned team from the Colorectal Center at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital are partnering with Hospital General Pediatrico Acosta Ñu to:

• Perform life-changing surgeries for children suffering from Hirschsprung's disease and ARM.
• Train local surgeons, nurses, and healthcare providers in advanced colorectal surgical techniques.
• Educate medical teams, nurses, and families on bowel management to ensure children remain healthy postoperatively and while awaiting care.
• Lay the groundwork for a sustainable program that will provide long-term support for Paraguayan children.
