Since 2013, the PHC has been committed to establishing Regional Heart Centers in all 18 regions of the Philippines by intensively training hospital and surgical personnel to provide open and closed-heart surgeries, along with training local providers in specialized cardiac procedures and recovery for children. 

The PHC is confident in its mission and vision to be responsive to the health needs of Filipino patients and to improve the health status of the Filipino people by providing easy access to the highest standards of cardiovascular care. Over 400 children have benefitted from this outreach program to date.

In addition, the Regional Heart Centers are quickly gaining the trust of patients in their capability to perform highly specialized cardiac procedures.

Progress and Goals

In 2024, Mending Kids strengthened its partnership with the Philippine Heart Center (PHC) to bring critical heart care to more children across the country.

Together, we conducted nine regional missions, delivering both open-heart surgeries and catheter-based procedures to children who would otherwise go without. For many families, traveling to Manila isn’t an option—so bringing care to local hospitals made all the difference.

That year, 108 children received life-saving treatment in the Philippines—the most we’ve ever reached.

Each mission also provided hands-on training for local healthcare teams, helping build stronger regional hospitals and long-term care for children with heart conditions.

Looking Ahead

We’re proud to stand behind PHC’s efforts to expand specialty care by developing Regional Specialty Centers within Department of Health (DOH) hospitals. It’s part of a broader national plan to make quality care available not just in Manila, but across the country.
